Daily 5

We are continuing on the train towards independence.  Here are we practicing how to read to self, write by ourselves and listen by ourselves.  There are 3 groups each doing one of these tasks.  When the timer goes we all pack up and move sensibly into our next task.

The next challenge for us is going to be being able to choose which task we are on and keeping track of them.

We have a lot to learn about how to be a self- manager before this step.

Visiting Kereru

When we were doing fitness today we noticed we had a special guest watching us.  A beautiful Kereru was sitting peacefully in the tree right by our courts.  We stopped everything we were doing and took a moment to enjoy the moment.  Sometimes its important to just stop and watch.

Throughout the rest of the day we noticed it hanging around too.  It was in the trees by Karaka and in the trees in the Plantation.

I wonder what is was hanging around for?  Was it really just visiting us?

Reading Corner Inquiry

We have decided that we need to be more independent with our learning.  So, we had a big talk about what it would look like and sound like if we were reading to ourselves.  We decided that we needed a space where we could read to ourselves in comfort.
We discussed what we could do?
Could we rearrange the class?  Yep, move the whiteboard table.

What furniture might we like?

Chairs?  Too uncomfy

Bean bags?  Too much of a mess for the cleaner and us if they popped!

Lillypads?  Too much of a temptation to use as frisbees :-(
Cushions?  But what size?  Shape?  Style?
We settled on a compromise of chair/cushion combo.
We discovered that indeed they are comfy but have multiple uses.  They can be stools, chairs, cushions, carrying boxes, hidey holes and many many things we haven't discovered yet!
